Lumen Christi Catholic Primary School was established in response to the rapid growth of the Catholic community within the Parish of Laverton.
Before 1961, local Catholic families worshipped in neighbouring parishes such as Werribee and Altona, or at the R.A.A.F. Chapel in Laverton. As the population expanded, parish schools were established, including St Martin de Porres (re-opened 1972) and Queen of Peace Primary School (1982).
With significant housing growth in the late 1990s, land was purchased in 1999 and Lumen Christi officially opened on 27 January 2000, welcoming students from Prep to Grade 6.
Since then, the school has developed in stages, adding learning areas, a multi-purpose hall, sports stadium, library, theatrette and outdoor recreation spaces. Government funding through the BER Program (2009–2010) further enhanced facilities and improved site access.
Today, Lumen Christi is a thriving primary school of approximately 620–640 students, continuing to grow and evolve while remaining grounded in faith and committed to high-quality Catholic education.
