At Lumen Christi Catholic Primary School, we recognise the important role schools play in supporting and promoting the principles of Australian democracy.
To ensure democracy continues to thrive, students are taught to understand and value democratic ideals, active citizenship and respect for others. We explicitly and implicitly support the principles of Australian democracy, including a commitment to:
- elected government
- the rule of law
- equal rights for all before the law
- freedom of religion
- freedom of speech and association
- the values of openness, respect and tolerance.
Through our curriculum, school programs and daily practices, students are encouraged to become informed, responsible and compassionate citizens.
Democratic values are explicitly taught through the curriculum and reflected in students’ everyday experiences at school. This includes opportunities to express their views, listen respectfully to others, participate in decision-making and contribute positively to their school and wider community.
Guided by our Catholic faith, we promote the dignity of every person and provide a safe, inclusive and respectful environment in which every student is known, valued and supported.
