Lumen Christi Catholic Primary School places a high priority on the health, safety and wellbeing of all students.
A dedicated First Aid Officer is available on site during school hours (8:30am – 3:30pm) and operates from the school’s First Aid room/sick bay to support students as required.
Our First Aid Officer holds current qualifications in First Aid (Level 2), CPR, Anaphylaxis and Asthma management, and participates in ongoing professional learning in areas such as diabetes, haemophilia and epilepsy. Where students have specific or additional health needs, further targeted training is undertaken to ensure appropriate care and support.
All visits to the First Aid room are recorded through a First Aid incident report. Depending on the nature and severity of the incident, parents and guardians will be contacted directly or provided with an email notification at the end of the school day.
In the event of a serious incident, the decision to call an ambulance will be made at the discretion of staff. Parents and guardians will be notified at the earliest and safest opportunity.
Through these measures, we are committed to providing a safe and responsive environment for all members of our school community.
Asthma Management
At Lumen Christi Catholic Primary School, we are committed to supporting students with asthma to ensure their health, safety and wellbeing.
Students diagnosed with asthma are required to have a current Asthma Management Plan completed by their medical practitioner and provided to the school at the beginning of each school year (Term 1).
Please note that Asthma Management Plans must be submitted in person to the school office.
Families are also required to provide the school with a labelled reliever medication (Ventolin) and a spacer, which will be stored at school for student use as needed.
This information and equipment enable staff to respond effectively in the event of an asthma-related incident and ensure that all students receive the appropriate care and support while at school.
Anaphylaxis Management
At Lumen Christi Catholic Primary School, we are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for students at risk of anaphylaxis.
Students diagnosed with anaphylaxis are required to have a current Anaphylaxis Management Plan completed by their medical practitioner and provided to the school at the beginning of each school year (Term 1).
Please note that Anaphylaxis Management Plans must be submitted in person to the school office.
Families are also required to provide an in-date EpiPen, clearly labelled with the student’s name, which will be stored at school and readily accessible in the event of an emergency.
To support the safety and wellbeing of all students, we ask families to adhere to the following risk minimisation strategies:
- Food is not to be shared at school
- Birthday treats are limited to pre-ordered icy poles via the canteen (CDFpay App), available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
- While the school does not ban specific foods, families are asked to be mindful of allergies within their child’s class when preparing lunchboxes
Through these measures, and with the support of our school community, we aim to minimise risk and ensure a safe environment for all students.
Medication at School
At Lumen Christi Catholic Primary School, the administration of medication is carefully managed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students.
Written permission is required for all medications to be administered at school, using the Lumen Christi Medication Authority Form. All medication whether prescription or over-the-counter must be provided in its original packaging with a pharmacy label clearly outlining the student’s name and dosage instructions.
Parents and guardians are required to provide clear details regarding dosage, timing and any specific storage requirements.
Please note that new medications should not be administered for the first time at school.
