Sun Protection at Lumen Christi

Too much exposure to the sun’s UV radiation can cause sunburn, skin and eye damage, and significantly increases the risk of skin cancer. UV damage accumulated during childhood and adolescence is strongly associated with skin cancer later in life.

At Lumen Christi Catholic Primary School, we are committed to promoting safe sun practices and protecting all members of our school community.

At Lumen Christi, we:

  • Encourage all students, staff and visitors to use a combination of sun protection measures whenever the UV Index is 3 or above
  • Provide and promote the use of shaded areas across the school grounds
  • Support students to take responsibility for their own sun protection, including the use of sunscreen and appropriate clothing
  • Require all students to wear the school wide-brim hat during Terms 1 and 4 as part of our SunSmart practices (“No Hat, No Play”)

Through education and consistent expectations, we aim to develop lifelong sun-safe habits and ensure a safe, healthy and supportive environment for all.
